How to get a start with PowerPoint Presentation?
PowerPoint
Presentations allows you to convey a message, proposal, story, business
opportunity, research work or any detailed work in a concise way. It’s
basically conveying your message in a concise, concrete, complete, correct,
courteous, coherent and clear way. PowerPoint presentations consist of slides
and a theme which helps you to make an effective communication without any hazard.
Why PowerPoint Presentations are important?
The main
objective of PowerPoint presentations is to make it easy the topic that you
want to deliver to your audience. It saves time and cost. It allows you to
increase your audience knowledge with the help of both verbal and nonverbal way
of communication like text, pictures and the personality of the speaker, his
voice and gestures he/she makes while presenting their subject or topic of
interest. No matters you belong to which field PowerPoint presentation is the
most convenient method for effective communication.
What you need, to make a basic PowerPoint
Presentation?
First and the
foremost thing that you need for getting a start is Microsoft PowerPoint
installed in your PC or laptop. The second most important factor is selection
of the topic that you want to communicate to your audience. An example is given
below which would help you to get the start with snapshots:
Topic Selection:
The foremost
important thing is to select the topic for your presentation. While selecting
the topic consider your audience that for whom you are creating the
presentation, the age group to whom the topic will attract and create interest.
Let suppose you are a marketing student of Bachelor’s program. Your Principles
of Marketing teacher has given you the topic of Marketing Mix and has asked you
to prepare a presentation for 5 minutes time period that should be based on
only 7 slides and also include examples.
Now the topic
for our presentation is “Marketing Mix”.
Theme Selection:
The second
important thing is selection of PowerPoint theme based on your topic. Microsoft
PowerPoint has given multiple default themes for your presentations you can
select one from them or you can make your own. Well to get a start, we will select the predetermined default theme for our presentation.
Steps to select
a theme:
- Go to Start Button and select PowerPoint Presentation to open it.
- Go to New and click on it.
- PowerPoint Presentation will be opened.
- Now go to Design Tab on the top and select any theme. (Note: You can browse more themes as well)
Now you have to start preparing your presentation.
What parts should be included in the presentation?
The PowerPoint
presentations consist of following heads:
- Title Slide
- Introduction
- Body
- Conclusion
- Thank You Slide
The first Slide
of your presentation would always be your title slide. This slide will help in
communicating the audience about:
- Your topic of presentation
- About the author
- The date of presentation
- A picture related to your topic (Optional)
Introduction Slide:
Introduce your
topic, give definition or explain your topic clearly and concisely. Your
overall presentation should be in line to your topic, it should not deviate
from your topic otherwise you will end up with mess.
The topic of our
presentation is Marketing Mix therefore we will define our topic first that
what does it mean? For Introduction slide we need a new slide.

At Home go to
New Slide button and select the second slide option Title and Content. See the
below snapshot:
Body Slides:
Body Slides:
In the body of
your presentation you can add more supportive text to describe your topic. It
can be pictures, bullet points or description. The body part of your
presentation can be made up of one or multiple slides depend on the time and
the information that you want to communicate to your audience.
As marketing mix
is composed of 4P’s product, price, place and promotion, now I will create 4
slides to discuss each component separately with example. For this you can
select new slide with Title and content or Two Content Slide format.
What if I have
selected one slide format and I want to change it later, can I do so?
Yes, you can
change the slide format later on as well. For this you have to go to layout
button select another format, it will change but make sure you have to adjust
the content according to the format style.
Take example of Product I have added Product definition by Kotler (2010) and have also referenced the source. For examples I have added multiple pictures of products in the slide.

How to add
pictures in PowerPoint slide?
Go to Insert
tab, click on picture button, browse picture from your laptop or PC and click
on insert. The picture will be added on the particular slide on which you want
to add. Click on the picture and adjust it accordingly.
Make more slides for Price, Place and Promotion as we have made it for Product.

Conclusion Slide:
In conclusion
slide sum up your discussion or write down the important points that you would
like to keep in the minds of your audience.
